Overview:
The SUU-FIA research group in the Department of Outdoor Pathways, Southern Utah University works in partnership with the USDA Forest Service, Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program to support Information Management tasks for research and reporting of forest status and trends in the U.S. The SUU-FIA group is looking for 2-3 students to join our team of research assistants. Training will be provided upon hiring. You will be expected to work 20 hours per week during the semester and 40 hours per week during the summer (flexible hours, possibility for remote) and will be paid $12/hour with the opportunity for pay increases based on
merit.
Responsibilities:
- Provide professional notetaking for various program and application development
meetings.
- Complete Quality Assurance (QA) testing for FIA applications.
- Complete Section 508 accessibility compliance testing, documentation and remediation research for FIA applications and documents.
- Develop user training materials including user guides and videos for FIA applications.
- Apply critical thinking skills to problem solve and create new projects.
- Attend team meetings and provide updates.
- Prepare progress reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Qualifications (required):
- Full time student enrolled at SUU (preferably in the life sciences, multidisciplinary, or
computer related field).
- Must be self-motivated and able to work unsupervised.
- Ability to prioritize tasks.
*Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong communication skills in person and in writing.
Qualifications (preferred):
- Experience with application development and database operations.
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Experience with project management including planning and reporting.
- Experience with developing user materials (user guides, training videos).
- Experience with planning and facilitation meetings.
- Experience with notetaking.
